Black Diamond Front Point Bibs

Gear Review: Women’s Black Diamond Front Point Bibs

Bomb Proof Women’s Bibs That Will Keep You Warm & Dry

Overall, the women’s Black Diamond Front Point Bibs are a burly option that will protect you against the elements and keep you warm in snowy conditions. Great, minimalist functionality for ski touring, but the fit may not be ideal for curvy or athletic women.

Full disclosure here… I originally bought these bibs, because I forgot my ski pants on a trip to Whistler (yes, I forgot my ski pants on a ski trip). Instead of buying a pair of pants that I would probably never use again, I decided to invest into a pair of bibs that I would plan to re-use for specific ski touring and mountaineering endeavors.

Testing conditions:

Used, but not extensively – 2+ weeks, mixed backcountry and resort skiing.

Pros:

  1. Gore-tex Pro

The Gore-tex Pro offers bombproof protection against the elements. Not to mention warm (especially with base layers underneath), it will keep you dry and happy in harsh conditions.

  1. Drop Seat

This is essential for women. With full-length zippers that run the seam of the legs and rear, this makes bathroom breaks easy for ladies.

  1. Good Looking

Personally, I love the purple color of these bibs and the way they look – trim fit, but not too trim. Wear these bibs and you’ll look like an instant pro.

Cons:

  1. Limited Flexibility

It’s Gore-tex Pro, so not really flexible. Despite the articulated knees, there were some instances where I felt my range of motion was limited. This could also be because I have an athletic build and these bibs were tighter in the thighs than I would normally prefer for non-stretch material.

  1. Bibs Straps Won’t Stay in Place

Perhaps this is something that is worse for women with a full bust, but the stretch bib straps couldn’t seem to stay in place all day (unless I was wearing my touring backpack).

  1. Slim Boot Cuffs

The boot cuffs offer an integrated snow gaiter with elastic grippers, but are a slim fit and very tight around ski boots. Even with Black Diamond’s own Shiva AT boots, they were still too tight to zip.

Product features:

  • Gore-tex Pro 3-layer shell
  • Integrated RECCO technology
  • Fully taped seams
  • Drop seat zipper
  • Keprotec reinforced kick patches
  • Internal snow gaiters with gripper elastic and boot lace hooks
  • Adjustable stretch bib with quick disconnect front
  • Articulated knees
